MMG’s Rosebery mine has reached another milestone with the 10,000th diamond drill hole being completed on the Mining Lease in the history of operations dating back 75 years plus. This includes drill holes at both Hercules and South Hercules.
This milestone was reached when drill hole 402R (which extended Z Lens to the North) was recently completed.
In total, the combined length of those ten thousand holes equals 1,358km. As the crow flies this equals the distance from Melbourne to Brisbane. In today’s terms, the total cost of drilling those holes exceeds $240 million.
John Lamb, General Manager of Rosebery Operations, said “This is a remarkable achievement and demonstrates our commitment to expanding our resources and reserves over the 75 year operations at Rosebery. We now have the largest resource base in the history of the mine”.
Mr Lamb concluded by stating “I wish to congratulate Todd McGilvray, our Principal Geologist, the Rosebery Geology Team, the team at WEST and the entire drilling crew from Boart Longyear on reaching this milestone”.
Exploration will continue on the Rosebery ore body during 2012 to further define the resource base to the north.
