Raising awareness of human rights with drama and discussion

Five villages around MMG’s Kinsevere mine marked International Day of the African Child with plays, presentations and discussions about the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child and the Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC) own child protection laws.

The activities aimed to raise awareness about the four main themes of the laws: child health, survival, protection and participation.

More than 120 community members, religious leaders, teachers, local media and administrative and traditional authorities attended the events.

Children’s Parliaments were also established in each village to encourage further discussion about the rights of children, particularly in regards to education.

MMG partnered with the Centre de liberation par les cooperatives pour le developpment (CL-CPD), a local non-government organisation, to coordinate the activities.
