MMG, owner of the Rosebery mine in West Coast Tasmania, is pleased to announce its support of the Tasmanian Classical Ballet Company’s 2010 season. The season will be launched at an event in Hobart tomorrow night by company patron His Excellency the Honourable Peter Underwood AO, Governor of Tasmania.
The 2010 season will include a tour of regional Tasmania, including the West Coast, where the centrepiece ballet ‘The Nutcracker’ will be performed in its full length at the Gaiety Theatre in Zeehan on 21 October.
MMG is committed to supporting the West Coast and is pleased that its sponsorship of the Tasmanian Ballet’s 2010 season will bring this performance to its local community.
“Through community investments we aim to share the benefits of our operations with the local community in which we operate,” said MMG Rosebery General Manager Mr John Lamb.
“We’re very pleased to support the Tasmanian Ballet in their endeavours to bring classical live ballet performances to audiences that may otherwise not have the opportunity to see them.”
The Tasmanian Ballet also makes a valuable contribution in bringing ballet to Tasmanian school children through its schools outreach program. Workshops include a short performance and shared experiences from the dancers tailored to the student’s age. The outreach program will be held on the West Coast at:
- 20 October: St. Joseph’s Primary School, Queenstown & Mountain Heights District High School at the Queenstown Memorial Hall
- 21 October: Zeehan Primary School and Strahan Primary School at the Gaiety Theatre, Zeehan
- 21 October: Rosebery District High School and St. Joseph’s Primary School at the Rosebery District High School
MMG is also pleased that its donation to the Tasmanian Ballet has been matched by the Tasmanian Government’s Premier’s Arts Partnership Fund administered by ABAF, Veolia and the State Government.
