Birthday cakes, a business leaders’ event and a community open day were highlights of celebrations in the township of Rosebery this week to mark 80 years of continuous operations at MMG’s Rosebery mine.
It took more than 15 birthday cakes to provide the 500 pieces of cake required over three days to ensure every member of Rosebery’s workforce could share in the anniversary celebrations.
Last night, MMG also hosted more than 90 business and community leaders at an event at Rosebery’s Village Green, where MMG and TasRail announced a $6,000 commemorative project to erect shade covers on seating in the new Rosebery Plaza.
This followed a mine site open day on Saturday, during which community members were able to tour Rosebery’s surface operations. Highlights included visits to the Rosebery concentrator plant and viewing of underground mining and safety equipment.
Rosebery General Manager Aaron Brannigan said that this week’s events were at the heart of the operation’s 80th anniversary celebrations.
“The support of the township of Rosebery is integral to our ongoing operations, and through our crew events, community open day and last night’s forum we’ve tried to involve as many people as possible in our celebrations.
“We’re also pleased to have donated $15,000 towards the annual Rosebery Festival, an important and much-loved community event.”
The four-day Rosebery Festival begins tonight, with an Arts & Crafts Exhibition at the Rosebery Community House.
Rosebery is owned and operated by MMG Limited, a global resources company which explores, develops and mines base metals deposits around the world. In Australia, MMG also owns and operates the Golden Grove mine in Western Australia and the Dugald River zinc development project in north-west Queensland.
