MMG Wins Platts Global Metals Award

On Thursday 18 May, MMG was awarded the Industry Leadership Award – Base & Specialty Metals at the 2017 Platts Global Metals Awards in London.

The Global Metals Awards, hosted by leading global energy, metals and commodities information provider S&P Global Platts, honour exemplary performance across the mining industry.

MMG was commended by the independent panel of judges in Platts’ magazine Insight:

Resource companies mine for many types of materials, but this Base Metals leader proudly proclaims that “We are MMG, and we mine for progress.” It has indeed made progress with its global and diverse offerings of copper, zinc and other base metals, a portfolio that was admired by judges. The Melbourne, Australia-based company has weathered the downturn by focusing on its core strengths, which judges identified as “strong leadership, strategic thinking and global scale.”

MMG’s Executive General Manager – Stakeholder Relations Troy Hey was in London to accept the award with the Deputy General Manager of China Minmetals Corporation UK, Mr Gu.

In accepting the award Troy said that 2016 was a transformational year for MMG.

“We completed construction and commenced production at Las Bambas, the largest greenfield copper development in the last ten years. We also pursued the Dugald River project, one of the world’s largest and highest-grade zinc development projects, at a time of shrinking global supply,” he said.

“This award is a great achievement for our company and recognises the strength and talent of the whole MMG team.”
