With the support of MMG Rosebery, Tasmania’s latest performance sensation Tasmanian Chamber Brass will shortly embark on the trip of a lifetime and the road leads all the way to China.
But what is Tasmanian Chamber Brass? Tasmanian Chamber Brass is a North West brass quintet made up of five of Tasmania’s leading brass players. The members are Lucy Crowther – French Horn, Thomas Lamb – Trumpet, Adrian Loone – Trumpet, Peter Walsh – Trombone and Andrew Woolley – Tuba. Each member brings to the ensemble a life time of experience and training ranging from local Brass Bands to Jazz, Rock and Bigbands through to Orchestral, Wind Orchestra and period Chamber work.
Formed in May 2009, the ensemble has enjoyed a meteoric rise in prominence having performed at twelve of the fourteen 2009 University of Tasmania Graduation ceremonies including the inaugural Burnie ceremony; the ASME National Conference, Launceston; Taste of the North West, Sheffield and other official functions for Councils and companies.
After an exhaustive application and approval process, Tasmanian Chamber Brass has been selected to represent Australia at the International Society for Music Education (ISME) International Conference in Beijing, China in August this year.
ISME is an International organisation which promotes Music Education and has held a conference in various countries around the world since 1981. Musical groups from all over the world are invited to apply to perform at the conferences, however, only a small number are able to satisfy the exacting selection criteria. This year, just six groups have been selected to represent Australia of which Tasmanian Chamber Brass is one.
The ensemble’s tour to China will last 11 days during which they will be performing at the conference, the Tourism Australia brand launch in Beijing on 2 August and giving concerts in regions surrounding Beijing. Part of the tour includes spending two days in Shanghai at the World Expo.
Tasmanian Chamber Brass has also been appointed two performance times in the Australian Pavilion at the World Expo. The World Expo is being billed as the biggest event in the world for 2010 and represents the ultimate performance opportunity for any group.
MMG Rosebery General Manager Mr John Lamb said that the Tasmanian Chamber Brass’s participation in this event is a tremendous achievement and a great opportunity to promote Tasmania and Tasmanians on the international stage.

“Through community investments we aim to share the benefits of our operations with the local community in which we operate. We’re very pleased to support Tasmanian Chamber Brass as they represent Tasmania in China at these special events.”
MMG Rosebery has provided $13,000 to cover the group’s tour costs whilst in China.
To promote the tour Tasmanian Chamber Brass will be performing locally at the Anvers Chocolate Festival, another sponsor of the group, this weekend on Sunday 11 July and at the Devonport Jazz Festival on 24 July.
