MMG Golden Grove’s Mines Rescue Team has finished second overall in the Chamber of Minerals and Energy’s annual Underground Mines Rescue Competition held at Mt Charlotte in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia over the weekend.
The team competed in emergency scenarios against 15 other teams from across Western Australia in disciplines including: fire fighting, breathing apparatus skills, first aid, search and rescue, rope rescue; and theory.
The team placed in the top three in eight out of the 11 available awards in what was an excellent and consistent performance.

d. Best Overall Captain
First time team Captain, Frank Vink, showed extraordinary leadership throughout the competition, and was reward with the competition’s Best New Captain Award.
Frank said that his team had showed tremendous commitment and endeavour throughout the entire campaign.
“It really was a tremendous team effort not only during the competition, but also in the weeks of training leading up to the event.“
“Entering into competitions such as this allows us to cram a whole year’s worth of training into 10 days, and offers the opportunity to test our knowledge and skills in some very serious and real-life scenarios,“ he said.
MMG Golden Grove Manager – Health & Safety, Glen Palmer congratulated the group and said everyone at Golden Grove was extremely proud of the team’s performance.
“Health and safety is our core value at MMG Golden Grove and competitions such as these give our team the opportunity to test their capabilities, and further improve their skills in what is a vitally important on-site function,” he said.
