MMG ranked top graduate employer in mining

Melbourne-headquartered base metals miner MMG Limited (MMG) has been ranked the number one graduate employer among Australian mining companies, according to a recent survey of Australian graduates.

The Australian Association of Graduate Employers Ltd (AAGE) has just released the results of its 2014 survey, which placed MMG at the top of the mining category and 26th overall in Australia.

MMG Executive General Manager Business Support Tim Scully said the results were a testament to MMG’s commitment to developing people.

“We are delighted to have been named the top graduate employer within mining. Equally, our increased overall ranking is a credit to our site operational and corporate teams who work hard to create a rewarding and value-based graduate experience,” said Mr Scully.

MMG’s two-year graduate program provides graduates with the opportunity to rotate across two MMG sites where on-the-job experience is balanced with a structured development program building technical, safety and leadership skills. Emphasis is on collaboration, teamwork and effective work practices.  Following the program, graduates are supported in applying for ongoing employment within MMG operational sites, including Group Office.

MMG exploration graduate Louis Cohalan said that the program provided a comprehensive foundation for his career.

“The most valuable aspect of the MMG graduate program was the opportunity to try different tasks according to my interests. I spent a year in Laos conducting exploration field work and developing strong geological mapping and interpretation skills,” said Mr Cohalan.

“I can see that MMG really values and invests in its graduates through a quality training program and would highly recommend the program to prospective graduates,” he said.

The AAGE survey is conducted anonymously and asks graduates to rate their employer on over 20 different categories including:

  • Orientation or induction program
  • Training and development program
  • Quality of work
  • Career progression
  • Supervisor or manager
  • Compensation and benefits
  • Work/life balance
  • Company culture

The 2014 survey included more than 2,300 responses from graduates across more than 100 organisations.
