MMG awards 2015 Geraldton University Scholarship

In April this year MMG Golden Grove announced the recipient of its Geraldton University Scholarship for 2015.

The scholarship, which is in its fourth year, was open to students who graduated from Geraldton high school in 2015 and were intending to study in a mining-related field at university.

The scholarship recipients receive $5000 in annual scholarship support throughout their degree and also receive a paid work experience opportunity. The scholarship program is aligned with MMG’s corporate graduate program and recipients are given the opportunity to apply and interview for the program on completion of their studies. Recipients are awarded the scholarship on the basis of their academic achievement, commitment to community and demonstration of a genuine desire to pursue a career in the mining and resources industry.

Fraser Scott, who graduated from Nagle Catholic College in Geraldton, is this year’s recipient. Fraser will be studying a double degree in Geology and Environmental Science at Curtin University of Technology. Fraser said that:

“This scholarship means a lot for my personal and academic pride. After MMG told me I was awarded the 2015 Undergraduate Scholarship I was extremely excited at the fact I would be provided with the valuable opportunity to work closely with industry professionals at Golden Grove operations, allowing me to get a feel for the mining industry and become career ready.

“This scholarship also means that as a rural student the financial pressure of a tertiary education will be less so and I will be able to focus on my degree at university. I believe the undergraduate scholarship will significantly assist my university experience and offer me a better chance for further employment in the mining industry.”
