Update on Las Bambas project

MMG Limited today advises that while regional security concerns and precautions remain high, the immediate security situation surrounding Las Bambas has improved.

The enhanced national security presence, ongoing dialogue with communities and key stakeholders, and support from the Peru and local Government has all assisted to stabilise the current situation. There have been no major protests in the region since Tuesday 29 September 2015.

MMG continues to work closely with local law enforcement with employee, contractor and community safety the primary focus. Peru authorities have now confirmed three fatalities and 16 injuries related to the protest activity on 28 and 29 September 2015.

In addition, MMG regrets to confirm that on 1 October, police in transit from Cusco to Las Bambas were involved in a light vehicle accident which resulted in the death of two police officers.

We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and injured.

MMG remains deeply concerned about the violent incidents that occurred in the vicinity of our project and is supporting all efforts to promote further dialogue with elected and representative groups.

Las Bambas management continue to meet with government officials from the region and at the national level. The Peru Government have committed to supporting a round table discussion with local and regional authorities and community leaders to seek to better understand the concerns of protestors and local representatives.

Mining, construction and commissioning activities have progressively resumed on site with a strong focus on safety. Employees and contractors are now moving to and from site and delivery of essential supplies has resumed. Previously announced guidance regarding Las Bambas remains unchanged.
